January 3 marks exactly one month until my 29th birthday. Why should you care? Maybe you will, maybe you won't, but it is time I care. As a friend living in London once explained, Americans often say "I wish," where the rest of the world says "I did." To avoid looking back with regret, this is an attempt to be accountable as one who "does" vs. one who just dreams.
Don't get me wrong - I love my life and the people in it. As a small town girl (pop. 56...seriously) turned city dweller, I've had remarkable opportunities to check off major line items on my bucket list, many due to my career. With two Olympic Games under my belt (Beijing and Vancouver) and the FIFA World Cup South Africa in 2010, my 20's have been pretty incredible; however, if that was all this single girl wanted to accomplish, the next 50 years would be pretty pathetic.
As February 3 quickly approaches, I'm making a list of 30 things I want to do before turning 30. Along the way I'll post a few short-term goals, struggles and accomplishments. I'm still developing the "final 30," but in the meantime, here are five reasons why this blog might interest you:
1. I have zero coordination. My family says I could trip over a two dollar bill in a parking lot. If you have ever laughed at even one not-so-funny clip from America's Funniest Home Videos, this is for you.
2. This is the only way you can keep track of my whereabouts. I love to travel. Unfortunately for my friends, this means I often call at odd hours from various time zones (not a 30b430 goal, but I'll work on this too!) or go MIA for weeks at a time.
3. You're bored at work. At best, this will inspire you to invite new people, places and things into your life. At worst, it will give you something to read during your 3 p.m. chocolate break.
4. You like adventure. So do I. What would a 30b430 list be without things like skydiving, international travel, and a little romance/drama?
5. You visit one or both of these sites: 1.) http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/ or 2.) http://textsfromlastnight.com/. Not only do I relate to 80 percent of the posts on #1 (c'mon, I'm an Asian farm kid from Iowa... I'm already a walking contradiction) but most of my friends relate to even the most ridiculous texts posted on #2. If you like these sites, you'll probably like this one too.
More to come!
